Orion is perhaps winter's most identifiable constellation. Its a treasure trove of interesting objects to observe and photograph. The Horsehead Nebula is a famous but challenging object. It consists of the dark nebula B-33- the horsehead silhouetted against the red emission nebula IC 434. To the left of the bright star is NGC 2024--sometimes referred to as the Flame Nebula. The bright star is the left most of the 3 starts of Orion's belt. This photo is a stack of exposures with a Canon 10D and a Pentax 105 SHDF f 6.7 APO refractor, Summit County, December 11, 2004.
